Steve Miller Says He Released An Album Of Blues Covers Because He’s Too Old To Record Original Songs
STEVE MILLER, the man behind classic rock songs like “The Joker”, “Jet Airliner” and “Take the Money and Run”, released a new studio album called “Bingo!” today. It’s his first album of new material in 17 years.
But it doesn’t contain original songs. Instead, it’s an album of blues covers.
If you’re a fan who’s waited 17 years for him to put something out, and you’re disappointed that there aren’t any new potential classics, well, suck it up.
Steve explains, quote, “I’m 66 years old, and I don’t give a (eff) about that stuff anymore. I don’t even think about it. If I wrote new originals, you’d just go, ‘Ehh, not as good as “Fly Like an Eagle”.’ That’s just the nature of the game.
“Nobody wants to hear new originals; nobody.”
He adds, quote, “When people my age write their own stuff, you can smell the burning brain tissue. If I started writing songs, I wouldn’t be as optimistic as I was when I was younger. They’d be songs about politics and the IRS, and who cares?”
(This just in: Steve Miller is AWESOME. And really, he’s right. If you don’t believe it, or don’t want to believe it, just look at what’s happened to NEIL YOUNG.)

Steve is right. When it come to creativity and innovation, the best music is usually written when you are young. As groups get older their new music generally sounds like old rehashed material. Unfortunately, Every Artist competes with own worse nightmare, himself.
