Mark Linkous A.K.A. Sparklehorse… Committed Suicide
MARK LINKOUS, the indie rock musician who recorded under the name SPARKLEHORSE, committed suicide on Saturday. He was 47.
Mark shot himself in the heart outside a friend’s home in Knoxville, Tennessee. His manager tells the “New York Times” that he was pronounced dead on the scene.
Mark suffered from depression. Back in 1996, he overdosed on Valium, antidepressants and alcohol. It almost killed him and left him temporarily paralyzed to the point where he needed to use a wheelchair for six months.
As recently as 2007, Mark admitted that he was still battling depression. He said, quote, “It just got really bad for three years. It was this vortex I couldn’t climb out of. I think probably a little confidence is what helped, and that confidence was music.
“Just getting a song down, one at a time, that I felt was decent.”
He released four albums between 1995 and 2006.
His most recent project, “Dark Night Of The Soul”, was a collaboration with DANGER MOUSE (of GNARLS BARKLEY) and director DAVID LYNCH. The album doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s expected to be out this summer.
